SATURDAY 1ST DECEMBER SUNDERLAND & SUNDAY 2ND DECEMBER NEWCASTLE EMERSONS CHAMBERS

Amanda appeared in Waterstones stores in Sunderland and Newcastle over the first weekend in December and sold out on each occasion thanks to the fabulous response from the people of the North East.  Amanda was impressed by the Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland which was absolutely buzzing in anticipation of Christmas and loved the contrasting charm of the old Emersons Chambers building in the Monument Mall area.  The staff in both branches were friendly, energetic and lively which made the events a pleasure and Amanda hopes to return in 2013 to meet those who were left disappointed after stock had been exhausted.  Pictured above (L to R), Amanda about to experience the Metro for the first time, Waterstones Sunderland facade and another copy of Poppy Day being purchased at the till.

Lots of readers had heard Amanda talking to John Foster on BBC Radio Tees and Simon Logan on BBC Radio Newcastle in the run up to the events and chatted to Amanda about some of the issues discussed on air.  The radio interviews were a terrific help in raising awareness of the signings and the Poppy Day team send their thanks to both of the popular DJs for their help.

THE JOHN FOSTER SHOW ON BBC TEES

During a busy week, Amanda was live on air with John Foster at BBC Radio Tees 2-3pm on Tues 27 November when she was talking books, Poppy Day, military wife gossip and life in general as BBC Radio Tees' inspirational woman of the week.

THE SIMON LOGAN SHOW ON BBC NEWCASTLE

To complete preparations for the Poppy Day tour of the North East over the weekend, Simon Logan was talking to Amanda about the book and her appearance at Newcastle Emersons Chambers Waterstone store from midday on Sunday 2nd December.  Simon discussed the story with Amanda on air and also some of the background behind the tale.

SLUG AND LETTUCE CHAIN BACK POPPY DAY FOR CHRISTMAS CRACKER

The Poppy Day team are excited to announce that the fashionable Slug and Lettuce chain will be running a special Poppy Day based promotion in the run up to Christmas.  The award winning brand will be giving copies of the Poppy Day novel to the first 750 people booking a party at one of their fabulous restaurants.  The Slug and Lettuce chain ran a promotional feature on the original Poppy Day release last year to help raise funds for the Battle Back Centre, dedicated to helping service personnel injured in Afghanistan.  Their offer proved so popular, it led to the book topping the Amazon 'Movers and Shakers' chart before selling out altogether.

LONDON'S BIGGEST CONVERSATION - VIA STUDIO LINK COURTESY OF 80HERTZ MANCHESTER STUDIO

Fresh from the BBC News Channel appearance, Amanda observed a solemn silence before making her way over to the magnificent 80Hertz studio to link in with Iain Dale on his Sunday show at LBC Radio.  Amanda told Iain and his listeners about her experiences as a forces' wife at Remembrance time and also covered in detail some of the current work the the Royal British Legion carries out every day to help look after service personnel past and present.  With huge numbers of active readers tuning in to Iain's book club on a regular basis, the topics covered stimulated a lot of interest and Poppy Day continued it's rapid ascent up the charts in both Kindle and Paperback.

BATH WATERSTONES SIGNING EVENT - SATURDAY 4th NOVEMBER 2012

Despite a large flurry of snow in Bath City Centre, Amanda braved the conditions along with seasoned readers to complete the long anticipated Milsom Street signing of Poppy Day.  Having previously been interviewed as a guest on Graham Rogers' BBC Radio Wiltshire Sunday Morning show last year, Graham got Amanda back on for an update on the Poppy Day novel and to encourage readers to battle through the elements and say hello.  Another brisk signing passed, leaving Amanda ready for the official book launch on Wednesday 7th November in Waterstones Piccadilly and the huge signing event at Waterstones Bluewater Shopping Centre branch.  A special thank you to Claire and Steve at Bath who made Amanda's visit so enjoyable.

SALISBURY WATERSTONES SIGNING EVENT - SATURDAY 3rd NOVEMBER 2012

A huge thank you to all staff at Waterstones Salisbury, especially Jane, Richard and Leoni for making the first event of this year's tour with Poppy Day so memorable.  The largest bookstore in Wiltshire was the perfect location to start the campaign and in a flurry of activity Amanda was photographed in action by the Rex photo agency and also the Salisbury Camera Club, whose pictures of the day will be posted shortly.  Exhausting stocks in store on the day, a courier delivery had to be bought in to keep up with demand, making Poppy Day as the best selling book across all categories.

Thanks also to the members of the Salisbury Royal British Legion who came out to show their support and entertain us with their stories and wit, it was very much appreciated.  We look forward to visiting the Salisbury branch in the near future.

NEWS ITEM FROM THE BOOKSELLER - WEDS 4th & SUN 8th JULY 2012

www.bookseller.com

Head of Zeus has acquired two novels by Amanda Prowse, including Poppy Day which was previously self-published.

Editorial director Laura Palmer bought world rights in a pre-emptive deal for Poppy Day and What Have I Done? by Prowse from Caroline Michel at PFD.

Poppy Day, which attracted media attention from Lorraine Kelly and Carol Vorderman when it was self-published in print in 2011, follows an army wife whose husband is captured in Afghanistan. Head of Zeus will publish in paperback and e-book on 1st November for Remembrance Day, with all royalties going to the Royal British Legion.

The second novel, What Have I Done?, is described as "the story of a mother rebuilding her life after killing the husband who tortured her". It will be published in trade paperback in spring 2012.

Palmer said: "Amanda is a natural storyteller whose characters jump from the page, grab hold of your heart and don't let go. These are books to curl up with and get lost in—I'm already envious of everyone who hasn't read her yet."

ANNNOUCEMENT 17 JUNE 2012 - POPPY DAY - NEW EDITION TO BE PRINTED FOR NOVEMBER 2012

Great news for the Poppy Day project - after successful sales of the first special edition published by the Royal British Legion, leading publishing house Head of Zeus will be relaunching it for its first anniversary in November 2012.  Head of Zeus are currently working on improvements to the novel and will be making the book readily available for all those who struggled to get hold of a book through the usual channels.

Fans can expect to see a larger format book with a cleaner font and a brand new cover developed by one of the industry's most talented designers to give readers an easier read bound in a beautiful jacket that will be a pleasure to own.

CLINTON CARDS ANSWERS POPPY DAY SOS!

Following reports of difficulties in readers being able to get hold of copies of Poppy Day, Clinton Cards have pulled out all the stops to get it into fifty of their most prominent stores.  Cutting through supply procedures in short order and making logistical arrangements with military precision, Clinton Cards will have Poppy Day on the shelves before Christmas and beyond St Valentine's Day.

The renowned
Clinton Cards chain offers the most extensive range of quality greetings cards, gift dressing and plush merchandise among UK retailers.

As the book was launched with no marketing budget and has relied on the viral effect to gain attention, one of the greatest prolems that has been faced is that of people being able to get hold of a copy when they hear about it and this could be remedied in the next couple of days if all goes as planned.

We will be immensely proud to be associated with Clinton Cards and are eagerly awating the delivery of the display units and Poppy Day books.  Clinton Cards is the leader in its field by a clear margin and we hope that all Poppy Day supporters will patronise their shops in recognition of the magnificent support that this gesture lends the Poppy Day Project.

Watch this space for further announcements including a list of stores stocking Poppy Day...

BREAKING NEWS - BILLY BUTLER ANSWERS ARMY SOS ON BBC RADIO MERSEYSIDE

Radio Legend Billy Butler MBE

On hearing about the rush in getting Amanda into Waterstone's bookshop in Liverpool One on Saturday 17th December, top DJ and BBC Radio Merseyside broadcaster Billy Butler has pulled out all the stops to get the author of Poppy Day onto his show in the morning prior to the signing event to talk about the book's meteoric rise to prominence at Christmas.

With all proceeds from sales of the book having been donated to the Royal British Legion's 2012 Poppy Appeal, the funds raised at Waterstone's will help service personnel injured in Afghanistan and also show troops serving away from home this Christmas that the public in the UK support those individuals serving their country, irrespective of their views on the conflict itself.  It is vital to maintain the morale of our Armed Forces at this difficult time and by buying the book at the discounted price of just £5 (RRP £8.99) you can make a practical difference.

Tune in to Billy's show to get up to date with the current developments and then visit Amanda in the Liverpool One Waterstone's branch to get a personally signed copy with a dedication to a loved one at Christmas for just £5.  It is the ultimate Secret Santa present - remarkable value and something that people will actually want!  Check out the reviews page if you are in any doubt.
